Here at #nwpam11, we are thinking about what our relationship with Digital Is has been, and what we might want it to be in the future. Comments below are from some of the great thinkers in this session...
The time spent digging into Digital Is today set off a whole
new series of thoughts regarding how the Digital Is site can support work in
our SI and beyond. It has pushed me
passed personal ways I have accessed Digital Is in the past to looking at a
bigger picture. Exciting. I am anxious to think and talk more with my site
about Digital Is.
Over the next few months, I plan to spend time truly exploring Digital Is... with an eye on discovering and sharing resources. I will take an inquiry stance in discovery and eschew my normal tendancy to "hit and run." I will also share more resources on Twitter and on my blog.
I really dig that I had the time this afternoon to search into Digital Is. I had a chance to understanding how this space is becoming. I want to b more active in small ways on the site, through posting bloggy stuff and giving more feedback, commenting, etc.
Also, specifically I am thinking that I can integrate a content link from Digital Is into my Bi-Weekly-Ish email newsletter to UNCCWP TCs. This could get more or our TCs overtime to see what the possibilities are for the site.
I've shared your First Grade Ethnography with my college students and with prospective teachers. They love it. Look forward to seeing more of your thoughts on how to advance Dig It.
I would love to jump full forward and begin to be a contributing resourcer, but I know that, at least at this point would be biting off more than possible. So that as an end goal set in site, I will begin my journey with three baby steps.
enjoying the site and pulling one project/concept/strategy out each time to immediately take back to the classroom.
exploring the site for information that is of critical interest to the writing project members at my site and posting it to outr social media networks.
encouraging members (two specific) of our network to become more invovled with the site as both a consumer and a producer.
How do I build Dig It (I just renamed it) into our summer institute? What are natural entry points? What do I need to do between now and June to make it part of our summer work?
How do I make Dig It a tool that more of our TCs can access? What kind of continuity can I offer to invite a larger discussion at my site? How do I encourage our TCs who are already tech saavy to use Dig It?
Would someone please email me and remind me to get back on this after the first of the year?
I have explored the site before and found interesting ideas and tidbits to feed my hunger for knowledge and ideas, but it has been a while. After today's session, I'd like to make my visits here more regular, something nice I do for myself, adding richness to my life. I don't image myself coming to this site everyday, but I can certainly make it part of my Sunday morning coffee tour.
And while I am at it, why not share with my colleagues and writing project peeps? While I am excited to discuss in such a rich online-community, sharing content from here could make discussions IRL, too. I can't wait to hear, "Hey, I saw what you said in Digital Is..."
will be to consider ways to support teachers at our site to create/curate resources that they think will be useful to their colleagues--both inside and outside our writing project site. Personally, I plan to explore more deeply and push myself to comment as well as gather information.
The next phase of my relationship with Digital Is will be to present an hour-long session at our Winter Open Symposium on NWP resources for K-16 teachers -- NWPi for monographs on writing, learning, and teaching; Connect/mbwp for site specific resources; and Digital Is for inquiry into digital literacy and how other teachers are defining, promoting, and sharing digital literacy events and practices.
I like the idea of a study group to explore this and think about how it will best serve the needs of our site’s work and the teachers. I suspect I will spend a good deal of time exploring the site, so I hope that I will do so with a goal in mind (other than avoiding doing housework or school work). I’d like my relationship with Digital Is to support my work at my site and to extend that support to others who have yet to be introduced to it. I would like to look at the wealth of resources our TCs have generated and encourage those TCs to join the site and to become resource creators.
Thanks for a great session. I really enjoyed it. (And lunch was GREAT!)
I'd like to know about anything that happens on the study of how to use and how to contribute to Digital Is. Plans for how to include it (which parts of it) in ISI or other site activity.
Also personal interest in the horse profile pic--wondering if Sharon Miller or others is a horse people--
The next phase of my relationship with Digital Is is to become involved in the interactive elements (i.e., discussions, providing feedback, looking at others' bookmarks). In addition to my not having tried them, these are things that seem not to be "missing" but are also not developed in the site as a whole.
To explore more personally, but also to provide professional development sessions that encourage and invite others to use the site much like we have learned today.

Love the new name and am already using it! Hope you'll share your continuity work with Dig It and plans for taking it into your ISI.
