Critical Need Area

When I was perusing the site, this collection kept snagging my attention.  Yes, it is fascinating, but even more interestingly, I teach 11th grade, the opposite end of the spectrum.  First, I think it is critical to deepen and extend our conversations about technology in our young learners.  Building a foundation is paramount to the advanced work we seek to pursue at the upper grades.  Your collection previews and delineates the thinking that can be both an inspiration to kindergarten teachers and educators as a whole.  I think it really connects to the concept of "digital natives" that has become more of a catch phrase than an action plan.  This is authentic, and authentic is what is needed to develop and sustain the support for digital processing, learning and production at all grade levels.  Too often we look only at the grade levels, or floor levels, directly above and below us.  This "concrete" foundation is solid, timely, and ever relevant.

Foundations for digital learning

Thank you Abby for your comment. I was pleased to see that a high school teacher found meaning and interest in questions that kindergarten teachers are posing about technology.

Using technology in the earliest years of education is not only about establishing a concrete foundation but also about authentic and developmentally appropriate learning at all ages. If young children don't have some of the rudimentary experiences with technology to build on, they will not be able to become skilled users of digital tools when it will make an important difference to their learning.
